Ted Fang is a news media pioneer, businessman and community activist. A native San Franciscan and lifetime resident, he is a graduate of the city’s public school system and the University of California at Berkeley, with a degree in Ethnic Studies. He went on to run the largest printing company for periodicals in San Francisco and the largest non-daily newspaper in the country. He was the first Asian American to run a major metropolitan daily newspaper. Mr. Fang has led The San Francisco Examiner, AsianWeek and the Independent Newspaper Group. He sat on the executive committee of the California Newspaper Publishers’ Association and was a founding director of the California Free Press Association. He was a founding member of the Asian American Journalists Association and New American Media. Mr. Fang also founded the Asian Heritage Street Celebration in San Francisco, now the largest gathering of Asians and Pacific Islanders in America. He has served as chairperson for Mobilization Against AIDS, and as director for the Chinese American Democratic Club and the Bay to Breakers Foundation. Mr. Fang also works on the San Francisco Hep B Free campaign, the largest collaborative effort ever in the APIA community.
